Ghosts in the tank ?!31 Aug 2004 23:52 GMT1
All,
Well I have just come away from the tank bewildered by what I have just
seen. I was watching TV and all the sudden lots of white transparent and
opague silk like pieces were floating around in the tank, I can only
Sanity check31 Aug 2004 20:46 GMT6
The new reef tank (still maturing) is a family project and the guys
have come up with a list of fish that they fancy populating it with:
1 x blenny
2 x clown fish
Nitrite problems31 Aug 2004 19:00 GMT2
A few weeks ago we restarted a marine tank. It is 270 liters and we have 2
clowns and 2 damsels in the tank. We have came accross a nitrite and amonia
problem that we can not seem to get rid of. We have put some bio balls in
the tank along with some "Easylife"  and that seemed to ...
Low Ph help please..31 Aug 2004 18:51 GMT2
The water Im using has a PH of only 7.6.. too low for my few month old
reeftank. It is advised not to keep depending on buffers like ph plus etc
and also I have to use a lot as tank is about 250 G.
One suggestion was to add some dead coral as decor and also crush some coral
Help me understand Calcium31 Aug 2004 17:37 GMT4
OK, I give up. I have been searching for an understandable explanation of
the relationship between Calcium level, alkalinity, pH, CO2 and whatever
else matters. I have looked at some of Craig Bingman's stuff. The guy is
brilliant. But I have no PhD in chemistry so a lot of it goes ...
Non-toxic dye to observe water flow in reef31 Aug 2004 04:12 GMT2
I have a chiller circuit for my 150 gallon reef which pumps cooled
water back into the tank at about 600 gallons an hour.  The tank was
designed poorly in that with the hood on, I cannot access 2/3rds of
the tank. Further without someone else to help me take the hood off I
"starter" inverts?31 Aug 2004 00:39 GMT4
I've just acquired some decent lighting, the last component I needed
to go reef, from FOWLR. I'm now running 6x65 PC (4-10,000k &
2-actinic) on a 75 gallon with 20g sump, seaclone100 skimmer, 60 lbs
Fiji LR. Lightly stocked; six-line and some firefish, along with a
Anemone - Timings, Feeding and Care ?31 Aug 2004 00:23 GMT2
All,
I have been unsuccessful previously keeping anemones and I would like to add
one to my new tank. When would you suggest is a good time to add one after
the tank has been matured? (tank has been matured for 3 weeks now)
emergency marine aquarium :-)30 Aug 2004 16:12 GMT4
My son came back from the seaside at the weekend with a bucket full of
shells (like they do). Unfortunatley among them were about a dozen
muscles and two small crabs which were still very much alive!
We're going back to the seaside on saturday, so I'd really like to keep
Lion Fish ate a Hermit crab..30 Aug 2004 09:29 GMT2
I put a prawn in my tank last night and it got the Lion Fish excited, but
the dumb thing mistook a small hermit crab for a prawn and ate it hole. What
can I do ?, the shell is in it's guts now. Being a poisonous fish I didn't
want to grab it and pull the thing out.
thread sealing compound30 Aug 2004 02:26 GMT5
I have a pinpoint leak on the supply side of my mag pump it sounds like a
calcium reactor and fills the tank with micro bubbles .  I suspect it is the
union because when I put water on it it sucks it in. Maybe it has the wrong
sized O-ring.  Can I use a thread sealing compound ...
A deep sand bed or a shallow one ?29 Aug 2004 04:17 GMT2
All,
Another question which still perplexes me is this concept of sand beds and
whether they should be shallow or deep. The guy in my LFS swears blind that
you should keep it shallow as he says a deep bed just holds rubbish,
Marine Lighting Conundrum !29 Aug 2004 01:32 GMT3
All,
I have been going through the lighting conundrum for marine tanks. I am
putting in another new 420 litre tank and I am having problems working out
the best lighting scenario.

Does anyone here know a good mail order livestock supplier that is either in
the UK or will ship to the UK - some recommendations would be great.
