Metal Halides for 75g- Clams11 Aug 2004 23:26 GMT1
I am interested in upgrading my FOWLR system to include 2 Metal
halides and 2 Vho actinics. I wanted to know if I get a hanging
hood(PFO) will the light be concentrated directly into the tank or
will the light flood the wall behind and the room. Wanted to know
Cooling11 Aug 2004 10:35 GMT7
It's hot here, so the tanks taking a battering too.
Currently the temp is over 30 degrees in there, (86 for you Americans.)
Are there any good tried and tested (and cheap!) methods that can help keep
things cool?
Critter ID?10 Aug 2004 23:52 GMT4
Before I go killing this off I want at least a 2nd or 3rd opinion.  Is this
aiptasia?  From what I've seen searching around, they are usually brown
translucent.  The closest I could find was glass anenome. Picture posted on the
nano-reef forums:

hydrometer vs refractometer10 Aug 2004 23:00 GMT1
I've checked the FAQ for this, and if the answer is there, I didn't
find it...
I note that my LFSs use hydrometers to check the SG of their own
water and any samples customers bring in. I happen to have a decent
phosphate persistant.10 Aug 2004 13:37 GMT1
I keep getting an algae problem with my new tank and a few people have
suggested its a phosphate problem.  after trying a phos-zorb pouch and then
3 Hagen phosphate removing pouches the tank seems to have got stuck at a
level of 0.03-0.25 ppm.  I replaced the pouches with a new ...

Tunze turbelle09 Aug 2004 08:07 GMT4
I buy the magazine "Tropical Fish Hobbyist" monthly. The
advertisements by TAAM Inc (T/A Rio) show very high throughput pumps
which seem identical to the Tunze turbelle series. Are they being
manufactured under licence in the U.S., or is this a rip-off ? Does
Tank Photography09 Aug 2004 07:58 GMT5
Just got my first digital camera.  A Canon Powershot A70.  I have no
experience in photography, but am enjoying learning about my new toy.
One of the first things I've found is shooting pics of moving fish in
idiosyncratic tank lighting is a bit tricky. :-)
The Oc Clownfish Shimmy.....09 Aug 2004 06:44 GMT1
OK,
I know that it is some sort of communication... Has anyone nailed what it
means. I was able to induce both of mine to start doing it repeatedly by
doing it myself.....  Was I challenging the dominant fishes authority? She
RO/DI09 Aug 2004 06:37 GMT1
Is there a time limit that RO/DI water can be stored and what kind of
material the container can be?
Thanks Skipp
Approximate lighting distances09 Aug 2004 01:58 GMT1
Hello everyone! I have a 140 gallon oceanic reef tank that I just changed
over from VHO with 2 IceCap 600 ballasts driving each pair of URI
actinic/white. I now have a new Coralife Aqualight professional with 2 150
watt metal halide HQI bulbs, and 2 96 watt 03 actinic blue power ...
best stores in Los Angeles?09 Aug 2004 01:40 GMT2
Can someone recommend some good marine/reef stores in Los Angeles?  I
live on the west side.  There's a pretty decent one in Culver City
(Apex... on Sepulveda?) and another in West Hollywood (by Trader Joe's
on Santa Monica).  I'm looking for good live rock, inverts, and decent
