Timer / Temperature Controller18 Sep 2004 05:35 GMT10
Something that others may be interested in:
My problem right now is that my tank can increase 5 degrees in an eight hour
period if I turn off the A/C unit. On the other hand, with electricity
problems being as they are in Southern California, I don't want to waste
DIY low-cost chiller?18 Sep 2004 02:24 GMT8
Does it exist?
I live in Los Angeles, and my apartment heats up considerably during
the day.  Usually air-conditiong isn't needed here (where I live in
LA), but sometimes it can go a few days with high temps.
Initial Tank Water15 Sep 2004 22:18 GMT4
After many months of research, planning and construction,I'm getting
ready for my final steps in setting up my reef. My question is the
water used to intially fill the tank (75 gal). Must this water be
ro/di or will just plain tap water suffice? I plan to cycle with
Homemade live rock and rebar15 Sep 2004 22:06 GMT11
Here is something new for me. I am wanting to make some home made live rock
(Portland cement, coral skeletons, crushed coral, and sand). Well I want to
make the base a large ledge... kinda like a table. Well there is no way
cement will hold all the life rock on top alone. A few rods ...
Constant Clicking15 Sep 2004 20:22 GMT1
I've decided that it's a pistol shrimp in our tank and not a mantis as we
haven't lost that many fishes, and the ones we've lost have all show signs
of being 'ill.'
The thing is I've never seen the little sod. It's been clicking really loud
Looking for a "Reef Buddy"15 Sep 2004 18:40 GMT13
I am about to return to marine aquariums after being away from the
hobby (investment?) for about eighteen years. At the time I stopped
keeping aquariums, wet-dry seemed to just be emerging. Nowadays, there
seems to be a ton of technology and opinions, too.
Metal Halide Types15 Sep 2004 05:59 GMT1
I'm looking at adding some MH to my existing tank.  The question here
is, are all MH acceptable for an aquarium?  I have the opportunity to
pick up some 400W MH with integrated ballasts and reflectors at a
pretty good price, but will pass if there are differences in MH
Should I move my Rose anenome?14 Sep 2004 22:46 GMT4
I have a Rose anenome that disappeared for a couple of weeks in the
rocks, only to appear near one of the main pump outflows in the tank
(150 gallon reef with about 2500 gallon/hr flow through two outputs
into tank).  Its tips are being buffeted fairly strongly by the water,
Can ammonia and nitrite be too high during cycling?14 Sep 2004 19:33 GMT18
I started setting up a new marine tank using Waterlife Biomature to
kick start the cycling process. I was going to add cured living rock
later. A few days ago, I was advised to add uncured living rock right
away so it participates in the cycling and settles in during cycling
Very large timers? 14 Sep 2004 07:52 GMT12
I purchased a PFO professional hood with 2 VHOs and 2 MHs. With the
fans, there are five power cords. Hence, I can control each of the four
bulbs and the fans separately.
Add three power heads and that makes seven potential timers.
Anenomes14 Sep 2004 05:28 GMT11

Dead Rose BTA14 Sep 2004 03:15 GMT4
I added a nice Rose BTA about a week and half ago. It spent a few days
wondering around but hadn't left its spot in
about 3 or 4 days.Yesterday morning I fed the tank some brine shrimp and
mysis mixed together and then some Nori
O-Ring lubricant14 Sep 2004 01:01 GMT13
My protein skimmer has an O-Ring on the collection cup and the cup is
getting difficult to remove so I was thinking that lubricating the O-Ring
would fix the problem, but lubricate it with what?  What would be safe for
fish/reef?
