What is this mystery reef plume?08 Sep 2004 00:41 GMT3
I captured a photo of the most strange and fascinating myserty creature
emitting a constant plume into the tank.  The trail of smoke appears
transparent, and flowing in vortices similar to what you would see in a wind
tunnel.  It continued ejecting this material for hours, ...
Metal Stand Help07 Sep 2004 19:50 GMT2
Hi, I just got a new metal stand and the top looks like it is bowed
down in the middle.  Should I straighten it?  I am going to add leg
adjusters on the for corners.  My last tank blew a seal on the back
middle, it split the silicone right in half, I'm not sure if this was

Kalkwasser vs 2-part additives vs ???06 Sep 2004 16:23 GMT3
Can anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages of kalkwasser,
two-part additives, and calcium reactors? It seems like each is used to
maintain calcium and alkalinity, but perhaps I am missing some
subtlety. Why use one or the other?

Does anyone keep squids in their tank?06 Sep 2004 08:50 GMT1
While snorkeling a while back, I saw what I think were 3 squids hovering
in a diagonal formation.    As we approached, they darted away and were
not seen again.
This got me to thinking.   Does anyone keep squids in a fish only
bak pak on a sump?06 Sep 2004 03:16 GMT3
A couple of related issues to my previous post.  First, in case it
wasn't clear, I am replacing the 65 gallon with a 75, to get a lower,
longer tank.  The 65 has been difficult to light and maintain, etc.
I would like use my Bak Pak II skimmer as a hang-on on a 20L sump, in

add fans to PC?05 Sep 2004 00:50 GMT1
I just aquired a 4-65 actinic\10,000k Coralife light unit, nice
looking unit. It has 2 fans that come on when the 10,000 is on, but I
note there are 2 more 'holes' on the other end. If I were to get a
couple fans could they be mounted in there? I haven't opened the
Suction Cap Alternative04 Sep 2004 14:25 GMT1
Tired of suction caps coming off the glass and wearing out I wedged a length
of 25mm PVC utility conduit between the bottom of my tank and the underside
of the cover supports. Secure the powerhead/skimmer/heater to the conduit
with plastic/nylon cable ties and the problem is solved.
quarentine 04 Sep 2004 14:25 GMT2
A few years ago I had a terrible Ich outbreak and haven't had a problem
since.
My question is do I need to quarantine new fish  with or without copper to
avoid introducing any Ich into my tank and how long
Green Birdsnest and Cyano04 Sep 2004 01:46 GMT3
I have a green birds nest that has cyano growing on it in places.  How do I
go about removing the cyano before it does damage?  I have tried taking it
out and cleaning some of it off, but it didn't work, or I didn't do it
right.

Moving across town...advice please!04 Sep 2004 00:43 GMT7
We have a 150 gallon marine reef aquarium established about three
years ago.  We have a 4 to 6 inch sand bed and about 200 lb live rock.
Thriving within are numerous corals, critters and fish.
We're moving across town in a couple weeks and need advice about the
