Closed Loop Skimmer06 Oct 2004 21:57 GMT10
Is it possible to use one skimmer on a closed loop for a 55gal, and a 20gal? Could you just regulate the flows with ball valves to
even everything out? If so what skimmer would you suggest?

Two large valonias disappered over night - emeralds?06 Oct 2004 15:44 GMT4
I had two, large bubble algae in the base of branching
hard coral. They were located the way I could not reach.
Also, I was scared to burst the bubble and spread spores...
I knew I need to remove them before the grow even larger.
Anenome hosting06 Oct 2004 15:36 GMT7
I have two common (occeleralis) clowns the are presumably tank bred and
added an Anenome about 6 months after the clowns entered the tank.
The pet shop sold the Anenome to me as a Long Tentacle Anenome however I
have my doubts about it after reading up online and the description ...
Dead Turbo Grazers06 Oct 2004 13:12 GMT2
I bought about 10 Mexican Turbo Grazers a few weeks ago to help take care of
a hair algae problem in my 30-gallon tank.  Nine have died within about 2
weeks leaving me with only one.  My water parameters are testing well NO2 =
0; NO3=0; PO4=0; Ca=440; pH=8.3; S.G.=1.024.  I have ...
help! Anenome sucked into power head06 Oct 2004 11:07 GMT6
My recently purchased long tentacle anenome was sucked into my rio 2500
powerhead last night.  I found it this morning and immediately unplugged the
pump.  The power head had the grate on the inflow that has long slits and
all the tentacles were sucked in.
Is tufa rock OK for reefs?06 Oct 2004 05:30 GMT6
I have a question regarding tufa rock. I have set up a nano reef (20gl) with
18lbs of live rock. The problem I am faced with is that it seems that the
tank can use some more rock work. Since it is difficult (unless someone can
point me to a source) to purchase small quantities of ...
Emerald/Mithrax Crab and Valonia Question.05 Oct 2004 20:36 GMT11
Hey reefers.  I have an outbreak of valonia bubble algae at present.  I was
wondering if the emerald crab can help?  I'm leery to put a crab in the tank
since my last anemone crab developed a taste for red mushrooms.  Anyone got any
recommendations re: the crab or otherwise?  TIA ...
Huge Sump05 Oct 2004 09:09 GMT27
I have a 300 gallon Rubbermaid horse trough I picked up used for $75. It's
round and has a 6 foot diameter and is 32 inches tall. I also have two 400
MH pendants that came out of an old warehouse, I bought at a building
surplus store, for $15 each. Does anyone think I would be ...
Feather dusters??05 Oct 2004 06:02 GMT1
I just got a new piece of live rock and it has several tube worms that the fish
store said were feather dusters.  They have a slender brown tube and the part
that goes in and out (what is that called anyway) is white.  Does feather
duster sound right?  Will they spread?
Calcium Test Kit Woes.04 Oct 2004 22:29 GMT12
I am unable to get a reading with either a Red Sea calcium test kit or a Tropic
Marin.  The samples simply -will not- change color.  In the case of the red sea
test, the sample simply gets darker and darker pink rather than changing to
orange as it should.  In the case of the tropic ...
sump noise problem04 Oct 2004 16:57 GMT4
I've made new 700 l aga aquarium with 225 l sump. They are connected with
two overflow boxes, both with durso standpipe made of 1.25'' pipes and
fittings. The durso works fine, there is no gurgling noise. Noise comes from
the outputs of the pipes that are submerged in the sump. I ...
too Many Clams03 Oct 2004 19:36 GMT3
I am starting a 120 gal reef tank.  I bought 120 Lbs of Aqualtured carribean
Live rock which came with a healthy number of clams (13 of them, each 2-3
inches in length.  I have noticed that they release a lot of waste and that
a green dust (not all that attractive) seems to have ...
Bubbles in sand? What is it?03 Oct 2004 15:29 GMT14
In my sand bed I see little air bubbles approximately 1/4 to 1/2 half inch
deep from the surface of the sand on the glass. Is that de-nitrification
going on? I thought that this occurs deeper in the sand bed?
I have about 3-4 inches of sand on my tank and was hoping to benefit from
Dead hermit crabs02 Oct 2004 23:27 GMT2
Three of my hermit crabs (two red-legged and one dwarf blue legged) have died
over the past two weeks.  Didn't see the first two, but the last one was
walking around out of his shell and got eaten.  I'd had all of the crabs for at
least three months with no problems.  The only other ...
