OYSTER SHELLS20 Feb 2005 00:45 GMT1
Hello Group,
I've had SW for almost 5 years, but need a little help on this question. I
recently had oysters at an oyster bar. I asked to save the shells. I took
them home, boiled them and then placed them in mild chlorine.
Algae scrubbers?19 Feb 2005 18:08 GMT2
I have two overflows in my oceanic 175 gallon bowfront. They aren't covered
from the light so green algae, hair, I think, grows in them in the water
flow down the sides. Can this be considered an algea scrubber?
filter help19 Feb 2005 17:51 GMT9
I set up a salt water tank a few months ago, and have an outside filter
on it.  I;m getting conflicting info from the different fish shops I've
gone to. One says to use charcoal with it, the other says not to.  WHat
go you guys do?  debs
Is my tank ruined?18 Feb 2005 18:38 GMT13
I recently tore down my 46 bowfront FOWLR to move. I farmed the fish out,
and emptied it.  There was a lot of coraline algae crusted on the glass.
I wasnt able to scrape much of it off.  In a gesture of desparation (and
lack  of time to mess with it) I sprayed Tilex bathroom ...
Critter ID18 Feb 2005 18:36 GMT4
I just noticed several small 1mm leaflike things on my glass in the corner
of my tank today. Before I research what they are I thought I'd post. They
look like tiny light brown leaves and they have a smaller red spot like a
head. Any ideas?
Green Water18 Feb 2005 18:24 GMT9
What options do I have available to rid my tank of green water besides
my current regiment of frequent water changes and the obvious addition
of a UV filter? Are there any? I tried Algone about two years ago with
my first episode of green water. It didnt seem to work very well, but
Mangroves18 Feb 2005 12:42 GMT5
Anyone know why my Mangroves would be dieing off?  Water is fine, so maybe
not enough food for them?
Thanks,
Dan

I updated my webpage with the recipe of home-made food I

Filtration and nitrates question17 Feb 2005 02:26 GMT8
I have been googling various aspects of the SW hobby, and have seen a
number of posts on the relation between filters and nitrates. Is the
problem with these filters, whether they be trickle filters, canister or
HOB, that the nitrates that are produced in the filter are not ...
Anybody got a clue how to solve this problem?16 Feb 2005 22:35 GMT4
This is a gem.
My sump is in the garage in a cupboard (i.e. cramped and fairly
inaccessible - you can lean over it but it isn't easy).
In the sump (at the back) is a DSB approx 8 inches wide 24 inches long with

Cyano going away!16 Feb 2005 22:32 GMT3
It has been a while since I have posted. Just been reading and lurking.
Still in the hobby and still battling GHA and Cyano.
I recently added a DI unit to my RO. And now the Cyano is showing signs of
dieing off,
Aqua c  Remora Pro16 Feb 2005 18:48 GMT1
I have an over flow box for my w/d filter so is it kind of dumb to buy
the overflow box for the Remora Pro skimmer too? Plus it really doesn't
fit right with the Mag 3 pump, the pump intake is right up against the
side of the over flow box...
