How to spot a good LFS?10 Feb 2005 23:21 GMT5
The infamous LFS takes a lot of bashing in this forum and know it is
easy to tell beginners never to believe anything an LFS employee tells
them. Having gone through the reefkeeping learning curve recently,
however, I can tell you that following such advice is easier said that
My experience with Velvet Nudibranch09 Feb 2005 13:24 GMT12
I have had a problem with Flatworms over the past year and a half which
has gotten progressively worse.  I considered getting a Velvet
Nudibranch from Aquacon since they are billed as being able to reliably
eat flatworms.  I was a bit hesitant since I was concerned that the
Are we the last of a dying breed?08 Feb 2005 18:09 GMT34
I'll be the first one to admit that since getting back into the hobby I've spent more time on RC
than any place else.
It really is sad to see this usenet group dying since I spent many years here in the past and
had met soo many great people and their knowledge was invaluable.
fish dying in my reef tank08 Feb 2005 13:48 GMT16
Maybe someone can help me.  I have a 90 gallon tank set up with live
rock(from tampa bay saltwater).  The tank is about 3 months old and has
been doing very well.  All of the levels check out ok and water changes
are done every 3-4 weeks at 20-30 percent.  Recently, I started buying
water changes08 Feb 2005 12:10 GMT5
Hi......is it true that when you carry out a water change and use tap
water instead of R.O or deioinized water, the ph always settles at around
8.0-8.4......and is this ph ideal for most marine fish??
Also....do you have to mix the new water going in-into a bucket and keep
Pets-warehouse.com is gone???08 Feb 2005 04:28 GMT6
I am about ready to give up the hobby. More and more and MORE vendors
are discontinuing more and more and MORE of the products I regularly
use.
Pets-warehouse.com was now for me the only vendor that carried several
Yellow Eye Tang07 Feb 2005 19:11 GMT3
I must first say that this is a beautiful fish.  I saw one at the lfs and
thought it would be so nice to have one, but my tank is only a 46G bow front
(36inches across)!
I have had a slight GHA problem.  Basically just on the live rock.  I went
Making Live Rock?07 Feb 2005 18:53 GMT5
If you put ordinary rocks in your tank with LR, I assume that eventually
they will be populated by the LR flora/fauna. What types of rock are best
suited for this?
Thanks,
First visit to Tongs in Costa Mesa CA07 Feb 2005 17:19 GMT4
All I can say is, I was missing out. Best selection of corals, small frags,
large frags, fish, advanced hardware like quality skimmers and MH setups.
The place is huge by LFS standards around here. Must have had 30 large 50G
plus tanks full of corals for sale blanket priced at 29.99 ...
Fish has a popeye06 Feb 2005 16:44 GMT4
My yellow tail damsel is well and fiesty as ever, however over the last six
months or so he's developed a few small bumps here and there and today I
notice one of his eyes is bulging. If this is a disease anyone know what it
could be?
The hated Damsel06 Feb 2005 15:42 GMT23
I purchased my first "real" fish for my tank today.  I had a blue damsel in
there for the past 3 months.  I love the new Firefish!  The Damsel
immediately started backing into it and then I saw him go after him.  I have
a 46 G tank with 45lbs of LR, so there are many hiding places.  ...
Can a tank cycle real fast?06 Feb 2005 14:52 GMT7
Is it possible for a tank to cycle like overnight? I have had my 75 gal.
tank up for about 40 days now. I have 3 green chromis and 2 yellow tail
damsel and 12 snails. Also about 70lb. of LR. with a wet/dry filter and
no skimmer yet.
Maxijets at night06 Feb 2005 14:37 GMT4
I have a 120 and the way I have it set up, when the lights go out at
night, all pumps shut off except for the sump recirculation pump. Should
I be keeping some more circulation going at night with the Maxijets?
This is a reef tank, some corals, 2 elegant Anemones, some LR, a few
moving reef to bigger tank - should I move old sand as is or rinse somehow?06 Feb 2005 10:47 GMT6
I'm moving a 30 gal reef tank to a new 65 tall tank. I know I can take all
the old water from the 30 and then just add new water of the same
salinity/temp to top off the new tank.
I was wondering about moving the old sand (after emptying all the livestock
Hangon OverFlow Box Problem05 Feb 2005 17:35 GMT8
I recently got a new overflow box and cannot seem to get the flow rate
to work.  A have a weak (piece of crap) pump Rio 1700, however with
the pump running wide open, the water level in the overflow matches
that of the tank level.  When I try to throttle it back to a more
