DriftWood05 Mar 2005 21:17 GMT3
I have some drift wood from my freshwater days.  I have 2 big pieces that
don't require slate to hold them in place.  Has anyone used driftwood or is
it just not a good thing to do?

How to propagate polyps05 Mar 2005 00:30 GMT1
I have small rock with 3 brown polyps (no idea of the actual name), and
I would like to get these to multiply and cover a larger rock that I
sat the smaller rock on.  Will this occur?  How can I stimulate the
growth of the polyps?
Ozone or UV Sterilizer Question04 Mar 2005 19:13 GMT27
I have read on a website that UV Sterilizers can reduce unwanted Algae, is
this true and if so,  then how effective is this against the Algae?
Also, I was told a while back by a LFS that Ozone kits are effective for
reducing and/or removing Algae problems, once again, is this true ...
Effective Cyano treatment?04 Mar 2005 19:01 GMT10
What's a really good/safe cyano treatment?  I currently have a 12g nano with
2 baby false percs, small RBTA, hammer, and inverts.  Also a CPR Aquafuge
with cheato.  Any tips would be great, thanks!
hair algae04 Mar 2005 18:14 GMT9
I am having a issue with hair algae, so I went to LFS to have my water
tested and to ask for some advice. He said that my water looked good
except nitrate (not to bad, he suggested raising my alk to above normal.
I am afraid that it could hurt my red craps I have in the tank. Is
Catching Large Brittle Stars04 Mar 2005 15:08 GMT8
Anyone have any suggestions on safely capturing and transporting a couple of
large brittle stars? They are both about 24' from end to end. I want to get
rid of them -one is brown and the other is black/white. I beleive they are
eating my fish. The LFS will take them ( not sure ...
questions from a newbie about sumps04 Mar 2005 02:41 GMT1
I have a 50 gallon bow front tank with approx 100lbs LR, some soft
corals, seabae anemone, pair of damsels, pair of clowns, 1 small yellow
tang, various shrimp, snails, crabs, 2 brittle stars (other smaller
stars that I have caught glimpses of which probably came with the LR).
Restarting a reef. Some questions....03 Mar 2005 18:49 GMT5
I am resetting up a reef tank after being away from the hobby for about 7
years and I know that a lot has changed.
I was thinking of running a deep sand bed refugium with a protein skimmer
and no wet-dry section.  I have read that mechanical filtration is not

stand02 Mar 2005 22:12 GMT4
Anyone have any experience in building tank stands? Things like where
exactly do you put the support... router out the top of the 2x4 for the tank
to recess into? put a border around the edge? I am quite good at wood
work...but I just want to make sure it doesn't come crashing ...
I AM SOOOO STUPID AND KNEW BETTER (Damselfish) UPDATE02 Mar 2005 18:08 GMT5
One of the LFS in the area rents out the Ultralife "The Trap" for $7.00
(keep it as long as you need it). He told me it would probably take about a
week to catch the Dmasels. WRONG!!! Within 24 hours I caught both Damsels
and I am happy to report that they are no longer in my ...
New type of DSB02 Mar 2005 05:12 GMT1
Here is a thought I have had (no time or money to test it out) but how about
having a multi stage DSB? IE instead of having one ten gallon tank for your
DSB how about having 3 3 gallon DSB's? You can then rotate out one bed every
year. This would get rid of all the bad things in ...
Ich question02 Mar 2005 02:28 GMT5
I have a Kole tang that has been doing great (or so I thought).  I have had
him for about a month and a half.  I noticed over the last few days that he
has what looks like two small slices(one on each side) on his tail.  Is this
normal?  It didn't seem to bother him and they look ...
Green Star Polyps, propagation question01 Mar 2005 23:19 GMT5
et al,
I have a green star polyp colony that is growing like crazy and started
growing up the glass.  Some crabs dislodged part and it is folded over
on itself.  Are these things durable like leather corals that you can
Which return pump?01 Mar 2005 17:15 GMT4
I'm debating between three pumps, the Quiet one 3000, Mag-Drive 7, and a Rio
2500.  The price difference is too small to worry about so that doesn't
matter.  I'm curious about which one has the least amount of problems,
easiest to clean etc.  I don't want to drill my sump ...
