Algae went sexual with eggs??? Pictures included.09 Nov 2005 15:34 GMT1
Macro Algae went sexual. While beginning to disgard the algae I found
hundreds (and hundreds) of eggs all over the algae. The strange thing
is that the clumps that did not go sexual have no egg deposits
what-so-ever. I even inspected with a magnifying glass.
Where to buy extra shells for my blue leg hermits?09 Nov 2005 15:27 GMT6
I bought a dozen small blue leg hermits to help keep my aquarium clean.
They are rather small.  As soon as I put them in the tank, they
rummaged thru the shells on the bottom and changed houses.
Do I need to provide extra home for the hermits, so as they grow they

Test Kits vs. Electronic Testers08 Nov 2005 16:54 GMT9
Since I seem to be so adept at starting lively (and I hope friendly) debates
on this group with my questions, here's another one for you:
Given a choice between test kits, such as Fastest and electronic testers,
what are the pros and cons. I'm leaning toward electronic, but I ...

How long should Power Compact bulbs last?  I am currently running two PC's
on my 30-gallon reef tank: a Coral Life 96W Actinic and a 10,000 K.
Many Thanks,

Help - Two Basic Questions07 Nov 2005 15:26 GMT16
In all my reading, I have failed to find answers to the following:
1) What is the general rule of thumb for water volume turnover per hour in a
marine tank?  I have heard anywhere from 2 to 10 times per hour.
2) How do you calculate the bio-load of non-fish critters (crabs, snails, ...
reef fairy needed! 07 Nov 2005 05:02 GMT12
OK ,  here's my dilemma -
I got into the salt water tank about 4 months ago-  all made easy by the LFS.  I did some research on the basics thought I was ready..... I was undersold in the light department - I was told the green bubble "stuff" on the live rocks  was good thing ...

Starting out in South Africa... again.04 Nov 2005 11:26 GMT7
Hi to all
I live in South Africa and I am looking to start up a marine aquarium
again. I had one about 2 years ago (nano tank), but a burst heater and
resulting electric shock brought an abrupt end to my lovely hobby. I'm
Lighting Schedule ?03 Nov 2005 18:06 GMT13
We have "inherited" a 110 gal reef aquarium from our daughter and son-in-law after a job change required relocation on their part.
Everything is going well except I've lost the timer settings on the controller (9 volt battery backup dead) for the lights and I will not be able to ...

Getting The Word Out02 Nov 2005 22:47 GMT12
I was thinking some of us should put info about connecting
to rec.aquaria.marine.reefs on our web sites, to let more
people know about this.
I got started on just that. Here is what I got so far:
12G Nano cube lighting problem02 Nov 2005 03:49 GMT1
I have a 12G Nano Cube that I got about 1.5 years ago. The lighting for
the tank recently stopped working, so I replaced the bulb/light tube
thinking it burned out. But still it didn't work. Anyone know what the
problem could be?
