Looking for recommendations...14 Dec 2005 20:36 GMT3
My calcium reactor has finally bit the dust and ma looking for a replacement. It
was an Aqua Medic and was about 10 yrs. old. Motor quit. I haven't been keeping
up with what is currently on the market, so any recommendations would be
appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Dead Naso Tang14 Dec 2005 17:02 GMT6
I have a question.......I recently purchased a small-to-medium size
Naso Tang.  I'd say he was 2-1/2 inches tops.  Anyway, after less than
a week in my tank, he died.  Neither the dead tang nor any of my other
fish show any signs of stress or disease, like ich, and nothing has

Eels with smaller fish13 Dec 2005 18:20 GMT1
I have a tank with a tang, blennie, goby, damsel, and a six-line (al
adults).  I have some inverts, but mostly hermits and crabs too larg
to be swallowed.  Is there a small eel that would not eat any of thes
guys?  (Lots of live rock, lots of room.)
Calcium level high13 Dec 2005 08:51 GMT6
Is it ok to have a calcium reading of 600? I tested it 5 days ago when I
bought the test kit and it was the same. pH is 8.5, GH is only 7, SG
1.022 and Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates and Phosphates are all 0.
Can a high Ca hurt anything?

UV sterilizer needed for reef tank13 Dec 2005 02:04 GMT6
Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for references and links.
I've been reading everything I can find for the past two weeks, as well
as talking to other reef keepers in my area.
I run a UV sterilizer my 75g freshwater upfront, but that's because it
Coral Beauty and Hair Algae12 Dec 2005 22:06 GMT3
My Coral Beauty loves hair algae. Yay! He's really helping me get it
under control - he looks after the rockwork I do the sand. Several times
now I've seen him with humungous big poops hanging out the same colour
as the hair algae and today I think he was trying to get the Coral
New love new tank12 Dec 2005 22:02 GMT7
Always loved them, always wanted one, never knew anything about them
except they were cool.
My lovely wife and I went on honeymoon in the Tahitian islands for 3
weeks and snorkeled everyday.  When we got back to Atlanta we missed
Atanta Aquarium12 Dec 2005 21:28 GMT3

blown away. Has anyone else been there yet? I live a mile away from the
world's largest aquarium, Im I lucky or what?  I've been to the
Monterey and even the Shedd this past summer but this was amazing.  Two
Used Tank Cleaning12 Dec 2005 16:30 GMT4
What is the safest way to clean a used reef tank that's been sitting empty
for awhile?  Just warm water?  I'd like to make sure it's real clean without
leaving any harmful residure.  Thanks.
Emergency live rock rescue12 Dec 2005 16:27 GMT10
An acquaintance of mine got evicted from his house today.  He had about
a dozen 50+gallon tanks.  The fish were sent to new homes without
difficulty, and I got the $500 of live rock he had just purchased,
along with all of the components for one tank.  BTW, I've only done
Newbie question12 Dec 2005 12:57 GMT10
I would like a recommendation for salt water reef tank care book.  We are
new to salt water aquariums (any aquariums for that matter).
We had a 55 gallon tank given to us complete with some fish, lots of rock,
pumps, filters, liquid nutrients, lights and other stuff.  The one ...
How much water flow is really needed for a skimmer?10 Dec 2005 15:55 GMT1
I know this question depends in part on the size of the skimmer, but I was
looking at one for which the manufacturer recommended a 500+ gph pump. I
realize part of that is going to be air, but that seems like an awful big
pump. The skimmer uses a becket injector instead of a ...
Odd Growth pic10 Dec 2005 15:43 GMT3
I finally put up a pic of the stuff that's growing very nicely in my
tank.  I still am not sure if I should be pleased or alarmed.
