o2 bubbles?05 Jan 2006 02:53 GMT2
My new 65g reef tank is in its second week of cycling and is growing
brown algea at a prodigeous rate. This in itself doesn't bother me as
it's a normal part of cycling and once everything settles down I'll add
some herbivors in to snack away. What's caught my eye is the HUGE ...
What is it?05 Jan 2006 02:07 GMT4
Gotta love live rock.  Always new critters showing up.  Tank has been
going three years, with no new rock additions.  Never saw this before,
probably been living in the substrate and doesn't normally come out.
Any ideas what it is?
Shaving Brush Plant04 Jan 2006 20:48 GMT11
About 7 weeks ago I started a 110 gal reef tank with about 100 lbs of
LR.
After two weeks and a good buildup of brown alge, I added a 12 hermit
crabs, 6 snails and a lawnmower blenny.

i have a sump full of live rock and skimmer.  i've ditched the sponges,
ceramic media and bio-balls and have three chambers full of live rock.
My tank is a 40G tank lit by florescent tubes (MH only caused heartbreak and
algae, lots of algae).  Now i want to add some calerpa to ...
Live Rock Question02 Jan 2006 20:13 GMT3
I bought a pile of live rock that had been left outside.  Temperature below
freezing.
Is it likely that all critters are dead?
Thanks.
cobwebs?!02 Jan 2006 19:37 GMT3
Noticed in my smaller reef tank in the last month or so that i have what
look like cobwebs between some of the rocks, they are not coral feeding
strings since on a good number of the rocks there are no corals nearby.
They are all strings rather than webs, notice them more when i ...
Brain Coral Splitting- Yeah02 Jan 2006 08:38 GMT2
On June1 hubby bought me an open brain coral as anniversary gift.  It was
oval and had 2 mouths.  The pink outer ring has been slowly closing into a
figure 8. It now stays into the figure 8 and the outer ring is touching.
Another (third) lobe is forming.  Today I looked closer ...
Strike one...02 Jan 2006 08:36 GMT5
I added the live rock yesterday. The ammonia was .25 before I added the
rock, and jumped to 1.0 after adding it. I haven't tested yet today, but
I'm sure it's on the way up. PH was stable, as was salinity and the
skimmer has just started to produce foam (although very weakly at ...
Fish Food - 2 View Points01 Jan 2006 18:28 GMT1
I needed to make up more "fish mush" so on my food shopping trip yesterday I
bought fresh scallops, squid, clams, flounder, shrimp and smelts for the
mixture.  Plopped it into the food processor, whirled it, bagged it and
froze it.  During the processing my husband walked into ...
Lights and tank cover question.01 Jan 2006 16:03 GMT3
I have read some of the discussions about whether to use a glass cover
between your lights and the water surface. I have added a PC fixture to
my 29gal and have the fixture sitting on egg crate which sits on top of
the tank. This fixture has a plexiglass pane which I was thinking ...
Phosphate reduction01 Jan 2006 16:01 GMT2
As an environmental specialist for the DOH of Florida, I was issuing
permits for Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems (OSTDS) on
households.  While the state struggled to lower the parameters of sewage to
an optimum 10 BOD, 10 TSS, 10 N and 1 P (units in ppt) for each ...
newbie needs help with marine fish setup01 Jan 2006 01:54 GMT16
About 6 months ago I started my 130gal saltwater aquarium - I was a
newbie then and still am.  I originally populated it with about half a
dozen fish which all died in the first 3 months.  I think my problem
was I bought fussy fish which are not easy to keep in a non established
