sump in bsmt.23 Feb 2006 21:30 GMT15
I'm upgrading my sumpless 30 gal to a 58RR and building my own sump.
I'm considering putting my sump in the basement for numerous reasons
but there's one potential reason not to.  The only logical place would
be next to the oil furnace and gas hot water heater.  When the furnace

Need help with a hairy mushroom coral23 Feb 2006 21:17 GMT7
I inherited a colony of hairy mushroom's last Tuesday. The colony is
comprised of 10 or 12 individuals (it's hard to tell, they're all grown
together) on a 3"x5" flat rock. I've placed the rock in the substrate at
the bottom of my 65g tank (24" height to 150w MH and 2x96w ...

need to replace the bulbs. There are two "setups". Each setup consists
of one double ended bulb but there is also a place for something else

Deluxe Reef Devil skimmer  Good or Bad choice23 Feb 2006 10:46 GMT5
I just bought a Deluxe Reef Devil skimmer with a Mag 7 pump and am now
questioning my skimmer selection.  It's been a while since I did any
skimmer research but as I recall the ETSS skimmers were some of the
best on the market.  The skimmer is way out performing the Turbo

sea urchins21 Feb 2006 08:37 GMT2
I know next to nothing about fish tanks. A friend talked me into having
one. It is a marine tank set up with live rock, live sand, 1 large
clown fish (black and yellow), 3 black & white striped fish, 2 nemos,
an orang, white and black wrasser, an elecric blue (damsel?) and a sea
fish disease?21 Feb 2006 05:46 GMT39
I have a yellow tailed blue damsel that appears to have lost all of
the blue coloring (scales?) at the top of his head and around his
eyes.  So he's mostly blue, but black in that area.  He's been that
way for about 3 weeks, but he eats well and is very active, and
Recommended testing equipment21 Feb 2006 01:41 GMT3
I was wondering what kind of testing equipment people use and/or
recommend?  Was thinking both for all kinds of water testing to
temperature.

Precipitate in new tank???20 Feb 2006 03:01 GMT8
I'm starting up a new tank: 55 gallons with 5 watts/gallon PC lighting.
I've just begun to mix up my salt when I've developed this white precipitate
on all the interior tank walls.  Here's where I am in the salt-mixing:

Update on t crocea19 Feb 2006 12:56 GMT2
I've had several people e-mail me lately about my "new" t crocea clam
that I added on 2/1/06 and reported a kind of "rot" appearing on the
mantle. Turns out that this is rather common/normal with croceas and
isn't a problem. Here's a photo of the little guy as he appears today...
What am I growing now???19 Feb 2006 11:10 GMT3
I've got a weird plant/worm/thingy growing on my live rock. There's 15 -
30 of them on one piece of live rock, and none anywhere else in the
tank. They're mostly about 1/2 - 3/4" long and maybe 3/16 in diameter, a
bright green on top and white at the base where it attaches to the ...
