When you take your average powerhead apart you will probably notice that the impeller is attached to the shaft with a kind of clutch allowing it to rotate freely on the shaft about 3/4 of the whole turn...

The kit I have did not come with an on/off switch. It was supposed to, but it didn't. Since I am going to have this unit attached to a timer, do I neccessarily have to have a switch? If I go to the hardware store and get a switch, will most any appropriately

We recently acquired a nice (used) barrel, which we'd like to use with our RO/DI system, and for mixing salt. The question is, I'm not enough of a chemist to know what steps we need to take to get it clean enough that it won't impact the water quality in our tanks.
