Moving a Tank18 Nov 2006 15:41 GMT1
I posted a RFI a few days ago and got a little advice before a couple of
guys hijacked the thread.  Thanks to the ones who offered advice.  Moved the
tank today, think everything survived.  And for anyone else contemplating
moving one, here's what I did.  Emptied the water down ...
Water  change reuse?17 Nov 2006 19:12 GMT62
G'day all,
I've been offered just about everything needed to start up a marine
tank.
Problem is, we have severe  water restrictions here, and I like to
Denitrification...17 Nov 2006 01:49 GMT9
I'm sure that this subject pops up in waves, but as I'm new to online
forums/groups/blogs/whateveryouwanttocallit...
Has anyone had luck with external denitrification filters that don't
need to be fed?  If so... Can we talk about the design?...  Thanks...
Phytoplankton17 Nov 2006 01:42 GMT4
Foster & Smith have some small feather dusters listed. They're not in stock at
the moment, so I left instructions to notify me when they get some in. The
description states that these guys eat phytoplankton. Anyone have a URL for a
source of this?
Smallest HQI lights for nano reef17 Nov 2006 01:38 GMT9
I am thinking about 5-10 gallon nano-reef tank
but I would like to use HQI or Metal Halide lights.
Smallest I have seen would be 75W bulbs - they
seem to be too strong for a 16" long 5 gallons tank.
Protein Skimmer and Phosphate17 Nov 2006 00:26 GMT7
Pardon my ignorance, does a protein skimmer remove phosphate from a marine
tank?
Moving a Reef Tank17 Nov 2006 00:09 GMT25
Moving across town.  70g reef, live rock, a few fish and corals.  Live sand
bed.  I've moved tanks in the past with no live sand and plenty of rock and
re-established them without a noticeable cycling.  Just put everything back
in the tank and it was ok.  With the sand bed (and ...
What is the largest tank that you would consider using a natural filtration system on16 Nov 2006 23:42 GMT6
I'm getting curious....having got the 15 gall nano tank up and running
and my main issue being algae but very little else (I come from a
freshwater tropical backgroud and algae is always an issue that needs to
be beaten) I'm starting to wonder about the high tech stuff....
Booger flicking16 Nov 2006 16:52 GMT18
In keeping with the "I don't want to ruin his post" philosophy.
Nope, I don't see.  I took advice from trusted people with ideas that
make sense.  Not from complete boobs that vomit words with no evidence
at all, other than "Try it, it'll work".
Lighting Question16 Nov 2006 16:43 GMT9

me input on them if you can:
1)Coralife 36" Lunar Aqualight Fixture plus LED Lights--- 36" with 96 watt
10.000K Daylight and 96 watt True Actinic 03 Blue Compact Fluorescent Lamps
Phosphate reactor question16 Nov 2006 16:24 GMT14
Does anyone know of a reason why a phosphate reactor could not be used
completely submerged? I'm thinking of hooking one up directly to a powerhead and
dropping it in the trash can I use to mix up water for water changes. That way
the phosphates will never get into my tank in the ...

Anybody tried this colorimeter already ? Any opinion ?
Floating Foam14 Nov 2006 14:36 GMT10
My skimmer is producing foam and brownish/greenish liquid in the cup.
However,  occasionally I get some little Islands of foam floating on the
surface of my tank.
I have a Remora Skimmer---should I adjust it in some way?
