Live rock + DSB - how the heck?10 Feb 2007 20:00 GMT8
Been running my systems with no mechanical or chemical filtration for
some time, relying soley on live rock and sand for bilogocal filtration.
It works quite well.
My current system keeps nitrogenous waste levels at zero (or close
Pest star polyps?10 Feb 2007 19:42 GMT7
I've got a serious case of runaway growth over the rock work in my tank
with this brown star polyp-ish pest.  It has 8 tentacles and encrusts
like made by sending out tubes from which the polyps grow.  I think the
only way to get rid of it is going to be to pull out the infected ...
Pygmy Angels09 Feb 2007 02:07 GMT7
Just wondering if pygmy angels were reef safe.  I have heard differing opinions.  Thinking of a flame angel or lemon peel angel.
Thanks
Add Substrate  to Est.Tank ?09 Feb 2007 02:05 GMT1
I already have a 3-4 inch sand bed in my aquarium. I was wondering if I
could safely add another inch into the already established tank (6 months).
I`m thinking of Arag-alive Fiji Pink.
Sulfer Biological Filter09 Feb 2007 02:05 GMT14
Has anybody tried these?  I've been reading up on them and they sound
interesting as I have persistently high nitrate levels.

Snails (Stupid newbie question)08 Feb 2007 01:25 GMT19
Can snails, conchs, etc. right themselves if I just dump them in the
tank and they land on their back?

What fish would be best for a Salt Water Aquarium if I know I'll be away for a week07 Feb 2007 23:38 GMT5
I've always wanted to start a Salt Water Aquarium.  Had a fresh water
aquarium years ago, but the fish are boring in comparison.  I'm an avid
diver, so very interested in a Salt Water fish.
I don't want to rely on anyone to come in daily while going away on
25 gallon water change...06 Feb 2007 23:34 GMT14
It's odd.  I bought two plastic trash cans of the same size.  I mix salt
water in one, and then siphon off water into the second of the same
amount.  But, when I refill, I'm always 2-3 gallons short?
I spent some time vacuuming the sand.  Man, it's amazing the amount of
Small Inline pump06 Feb 2007 16:45 GMT3
Does anybody know of a small inline pump (60gph max) for a closed loop
filter?
I suppose I could use a once through design with a dosing pump, but I
was hoping for something that would create a continuous flow.
sliily confused clownfish05 Feb 2007 15:27 GMT13
I have a clownfish tha seems convinced that one my large hawaiian
feather dusters is some sort of funny looking anenome. She likes to swim
through the feathers of it's crown, and I have seen her dropping food to it.
At first the duster used to retract whenever the clown would swim ...
Protein Skimmer Reeks!!05 Feb 2007 14:58 GMT6
I removed all my mechanical filtration and bio-balls.  That was a great
suggestion as my skimmer is now picking up 2-3x the debris as before.
Problem is that now the skimmer reeks bad!  Putrid bad!  I was emptying
it once a day, and started twice a day.  Problem is that by it's ...
White film on fish?05 Feb 2007 05:39 GMT10
I have an FO only talk with three fish. The tank is about 1 year old
and in pretty good shape.  However I have noticed that my fish (eyes
and skin) seem to have a white fim on them. They are eating quite well
and seem to be in good spirits.
good fuge gone bad04 Feb 2007 17:14 GMT4
I have a 60g tank retrofited to act as a refugium and sump for my 100g
display tank.  The fuge side holds somewhere around 30g, has a DSB, some
live rock, and a small clean up crew.  It's running reverse photocycle
to the display.  I've been grown calupera, cheato and some other ...
coral problem04 Feb 2007 13:25 GMT1
looks like one of my corals is dead,
its gone black underneath and the edges are sorta fraying and torn,
a stray power head had fallen near it and it was taking the blast from it
for a good hour or so, un less this could be the reason.
Bo0ger1, show me your tank...04 Feb 2007 10:08 GMT83
Booger, I have noticed you ignored several requests
from several different people who wanted to see your
tank(s) run over a year without a water change...
Why don't you show people here your method works ?
