I am in the process of setting up my first saltwater tank (55g), and
have a few questions. I have included my basic plans as well, in-case
anyone has any comments that could improve my first tank setup.
I have read many posts on various boards that discuss new tank setups

My dip SG arm floats are both registering 1.024, but my refractometer is
reading 1.027.

I tested for silicates last night and nothing, nada, zip.  I'm starting
to wonder if it's just coraline algae trying to grow on the glass.  I
really have to work to get some of it off.

10 days ago bought a 90 gal tank, it has a seaclear  protien skimmer
that has not skimmed anything - it has about 200 lbs live rock in it,
4 fish so I know it skimmed at the previous owners. the pump on it is
a rio 2100 approx 643 gal hr pump ability... water is flowing into

My diatoms are back.  I replaced the material in my phosphate reactor
which knocked them back for a few days, but they rebounded again.  My
nitrates and phosphates are both undetectable.
I'm thinking this is silicates although I'm still waiting the arrival of

Ok...I have narrowed down some pieces of equipment to set up my new 55
gallon reef tank.
The things I do know I need and will be getting are:
60 to 70lbs live rock

Which is the price ladder when it comes to coral?
Some tell me red mushrooms are on the top while other say purple.
I saw a ricordea at saltwaterfish.com for $7.99,  but in the LFS the want up
to $30 for a single colored polyp.
