goldfish eating my plants29 Feb 2004 22:11 GMT1
I have 3 large goldfish (actually red cap orandas) and they either eat every
plant I put in the tank, or they suck on them so all the leaves fall off.
Are there any plants that goldfish do not like the taste of?

I see I can add Mag sulphate to raise my GH but in the text it says this

should I trust? Anyone tried this in US?
where does my Iron go?28 Feb 2004 01:37 GMT7
I've recently started testing iron in my 75 gal planted tank (4x55 watt
CF 5000K). I've got a medium plant load, I think - 2 large, 4 medium,
5-6 small, swords and anubias and java ferns mostly, and some floating
hornwort that I cut back weekly to just fill in the spaces (fish = ...
Surface turbulance in a planted non CO2 inject tank, good or bad?27 Feb 2004 14:13 GMT11
I know that surface turbulence is bad in a planted CO2 injected tank since
it drives off the extra CO2 that is pumped into the tank.  However, what
about a planted non CO2 injected tank, like mine?  I'm setting up a 55G
planted tank with 1.75wpg, and instead of CO2 I'm using ...
Parasites eating freshwater plants?27 Feb 2004 01:39 GMT2
I noticed one side of my aquarium having a large number of small 3 mm
sized white worm looking creatures on it (maybe 1-2 mm in size, pretty
small in other words), should I be concerned about them eating my
plants? You may have noticed my previous post about my plants and

Fluorite - How much rinsing ???!!!25 Feb 2004 14:50 GMT10
I picked up two bags of fluorite for my 25G. The instructions on the bag say
rinse before use to wash off the dust. Well I rinsed for over an hour in a
22L bucket and the water is still brown.
It seems that warm/hot water get dirtier than cold(er) water. Am I simply
Do the roots ever stop growing?25 Feb 2004 13:53 GMT1
This is a stupid question but....my planted tank is now about 2 years old
and I was just wondering if the roots always continue to grow in the
substrate?  Don't they run out of room?  How long can you leave the same
plants in the tank, do you have to uproot them and start with new ...

Second filter25 Feb 2004 10:16 GMT1
I just had a crisis occur in my 90 gallon planted tank and I need to make
sure it doesn't happen again.
The net result is I've lost a couple fish and put the others under a lot of
stress.  My primary filter a magnum 350 died while I was away.
Swordplant baby-when to plant?24 Feb 2004 11:20 GMT3
I have a large sword plant in my tank that has produced a long stalk with a
baby plant at the top near the top of my tank. It has no roots
yet...question is do I wait for roots to form to remove it and plant? My web
research seems to indicate that I need to wait for roots to form. ...
Why good plant growth= bad algae growth22 Feb 2004 22:45 GMT2
I think there are several reasons for low algae presence at moderate
non
limiting nutrients with macrophytes.
Perhaps it is nutrient limitation but what type?
Nymphaea lotus low temperature 21 Feb 2004 06:55 GMT10
I've done the web search and it looks like everybody read the same
book regarding this plant, but didn't tell me what I wanted to know.
What is the temperature that the plant will survive in a dormant state
to recover when the water warms again?
