Roots in the Water Column06 Mar 2004 23:03 GMT6
All right, at first it was fun to watch. Now it is becoming an unsightly
mess. All of the stem plants are growing roots in the water column outside
the substrate. Is this something I have to learn to admire, or is there
something that needs to be done I'm not doing?
RECLAIMING A TANK FROM ALGAE06 Mar 2004 17:25 GMT2
Started out with a moderately planted tank ...all was well....
Started getting some algae and thought it looked cool on the rocks ....
Then water sprites formed and then (admittedly) I let it go
uncontrolled...The result if a virtual blanket of deep green algae

This is obviously a new tank. But I love the way the ludwigia repens is
turning out.

DIY CO2 system question05 Mar 2004 02:27 GMT18
I have been running my first DIY Yeast CO2  system. I of course did
everything not quite the way discribed:
I used a one gallon plastic milk jug. Filled it half full and put in extra
sugar (about 3 cups). added 1/8 teaspoon baking soda and 1/8 Teaspoon yeast
Would like to add live plants04 Mar 2004 20:57 GMT2
I would like to add live plants to my freshwater 55 gal aquarium. I have
tried some in the past but the fish eat the plants faster than they grow
and after a week or so nothing remains. I have 4 large silver dollars
which seem to eat up the live plants the fastest. Is there ...

No question, just comment.04 Mar 2004 02:44 GMT1
Dear gang -  I have been keeping fish for as long as I can remember.
Usually the 20g community that could move with me wherever I go.  Now
that I am "all grown up" my horizons have broadened.  After much
thought I knew that a planted aquarium was the only thing for me.  I
Starting up again03 Mar 2004 06:56 GMT4
I just moved to SF and I am going to set up my tank again as soon as
it gets here. I have a 72 gal bow front tank, coralife compact 55w X 4
tubes 6,700K (I think), 2 ebo heaters, 404 fluval, surface skimmer etc
etc...
Terrestrial Plant Fertilizers for Aquarium02 Mar 2004 17:48 GMT3
Terrestrial Plant Fertilizers for Aquarium
I gather an N-P-K ratio of 10-1-20  or 10-1-10 is desired in a planted
aquarium. Most Terrestrial Plant Fertilizers have way too much phosphate.
But how about the ones that don't like these two by Schultz (see links
new tank question02 Mar 2004 16:51 GMT2
Hi folks, I planted my new tank last Friday. Friday and Saturday I saw
a lot of "pearling" on glosso, but starting from Sunday, no more (not
less, but absolutely nothing). I did not adjust lighting, or CO2
injecting (carbon plus running at 80%). Is it possible that my tank is
algae id?01 Mar 2004 14:41 GMT1
I have this algae (I think) on the walls of my tank that's hard to get
rid of. It takes some serious scrubbing, but comes back. It takes the
form of streaks (see link for photo).
Weird experience with incandescent light bulb plus....01 Mar 2004 01:17 GMT4
The swing arm lamp I have above my fancy guppy display and breeding
aquarium has been killing incandescent and I am pretty sure
fluorescent light bulbs screwed into it. I have a standard 15 watt
fluorescent hood light (in a standard aquarium top mount also. It
