I just got one of those red-leaved lotus plants (Nymphaea something). The plant is attached to a bulb. What is the correct way to plant it? More precisely, where should I place the bulb: on the gravel surface, half-buried, buried just under the surface, deep-buried?

Recently, I inherited a 15 or 20 gal. tank that has an under gravel filtration system. Does this system pose any threat to plants needing to be fixed in the substrate? I just have this idea that there could be too much pull for the roots to handle.

I have a 30 g long tank that has 1-2 wpg light and a yeast bottle that feeds into the macerator of the waterfall filter. I have one large angel and one ditch minnow. See image under same subject at alt.binaries.pictures.gardens (if it ever shows up).
