Lotus bulb question31 Jul 2004 16:18 GMT3
I just got one of those red-leaved lotus plants (Nymphaea something).
The plant is attached to a bulb. What is the correct way to plant it?
More precisely, where should I place the bulb: on the gravel surface,
half-buried, buried just under the surface, deep-buried?
Should I raise the pH?31 Jul 2004 03:42 GMT2
I have a densly planted 30 gallon tank with pressurized CO2 injection and 3+

"The Estimative Index" contradicting with PMDD?30 Jul 2004 23:11 GMT6
My fish tank experienced all kinds of algae problems in past a few
months. I started PMDD practice, now I have virtually zero phosphate,
5-10ppm nitrate, and 15-20ppm potassium. All other types of algae are
now gone, but the hair algae still linger. I thought they can not

plants in aquarium w/ UGF27 Jul 2004 19:13 GMT10
Recently, I inherited a 15 or 20 gal. tank that has an under gravel
filtration system. Does this system pose any threat to plants needing
to be fixed in the substrate? I just have this idea that there could
be too much pull for the roots to handle.

I have a 30 g long tank that has 1-2 wpg light and a yeast bottle that
feeds into the macerator of the waterfall filter. I have one large angel and
one ditch minnow. See image under same subject at

Is it safe to increase KH further?27 Jul 2004 04:54 GMT6
My tank is 75gal low light, medium stocked community freshwater with at
least 1/3 plant cover, no CO2.  For the past couple of weeks I've been
adding Flourish, Trace and Nitrogen at the recommended rates, and do a 50%
water change weekly.  The plants have improved in colour and ...
Pregnant Livebearers26 Jul 2004 05:14 GMT3
I have a pregnant guppy, a pregnant swordtail, and a pregnant sunburst

where I can find pictures, or info on exactly how they behave when ready
to give birth? The swordtail has had five babies, I think it's ...

Cannot sustain wysteria25 Jul 2004 07:15 GMT9
I have had it in the past, never could keep it from becoming algaefied...
The lower portions just became covered with green slime and hair algae...
This time, I got some nice samples, and they STILL got algaefied....
Yes they were planted, weighted and it was only the lower sections ...

I have a 75 gal. tank, as many of you might already know due to previous posts.  My plants are starting to grow slightly better.  It's been about 9 days since the tank was started, and this will be the fifth day of fertilization.
One thing I'm starting to notice is some of the ...

liquid organic carbon source a good substitute for CO2??24 Jul 2004 01:04 GMT4
I just purchased an assortment of plants for my 10 gal. aquarium. In the past
I've used CO2 injection for plants, using the home-made method, but I wanted to
avoid all of that this time. When inquiring at a pet store, one guy pointed out
a product made by SeaChem which substitutes ...
