| Plant question. | 31 Oct 2004 13:46 GMT | 4 |
Bought a few plants from a lfs. Each plant is planted in a small plastic basket with holes, inside that is a piece of sponge I think. I was suprised when the salesman said don't forget to take the plants out of the basket before you plant them, otherwise you have a problem with ...

I have a cycled 20G tank (high) that currently has some Java Fern and hornwort thriving. Substrate is plain gravel 1 inch deep. Since I'd like to add rooted plants what would be the best way to proceed? Do I add flourite to the existing gravel bed to build it up

| nitrates and dead fishies | 29 Oct 2004 04:07 GMT | 5 |
Ok, started off with pmdd, dosing drops per day, but read that you need to keep 5 ppm nitrates in the tank. Plants seem to be consuming tons, so I'm adding up to 20ppm per day (per advice in this forum), and I can't keep the levels up. Fish start getting sick and dying, and I ...

| CO2 and Filters | 26 Oct 2004 22:10 GMT | 2 |
I've read in this newsgroup (haven't bothered looking it up) that motion on the surface of the water will deplete C02 levels in my fish tank. Does that mean that if I inject CO2 into perhaps an AquaClear filter's intake (the kind that hangs on the back of the aquarium and trickles ...

| Vision 180 lighting. | 26 Oct 2004 22:07 GMT | 1 |
Bought a juwel vision 180 tank. The 2 25watt tubes that come with it seem to be near to ordinary household tubes. Any suggestions for 2 tubes to use. Its 18" deep, what would you recommend for 1 tube to show off fish colours and 1 tube to encourage plant growth.

| Black Mollies and Algae | 25 Oct 2004 13:56 GMT | 1 |
I have 3 black mollies in a 50gal planted tank. At first they were like lawnmowers in eating any green hair algae. But now they are mostly surface skimming and ignoring growing green hair algae. (at least the surace is nice and clean!)

| Planting rocks ? | 24 Oct 2004 08:23 GMT | 1 |
What do you think about "planting rocks" ? For example: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=6316&Ntt=planting% 20rocks&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&N=2004 Looks like an easy way to incorporate some interest and dimension into the tank,

| lights or COs first? | 23 Oct 2004 08:08 GMT | 11 |
I am wanting to add both a pressurized CO2 and a nice lighting system. My question though is which one should I add first? I currently have a DIY CO2, and around 100 watts of flourescent lights over a 135 U.S. Gal tank. The lights will be Metal Halide (these ...

We have a new 30 gallon tank we want to set up. I would like to have a broader range of plants to choose from so choosing the right amount of watts for our tank is the problem right now. We were thinking of a 30'' lite strip with a 65watt 6500k compact fluorescent by coralife ...
