trimming advice?30 Nov 2004 16:25 GMT1
Hau kolas..well my first foray into planted aquaria seems to be going pretty
well so far; just basic beginner  plants. Several plants that have really
taken off, in particular "red ludwigia" and really need to be trimmed back.
So, as a general rule of thumb, where is the "ideal" ...

as 1/8" ID. All of it is over 6 feet long, is there anything I can make out
of it? Maybe some kind of fluidized bed filter? Preferably i would like it

When/how to plant baby swordplants25 Nov 2004 05:15 GMT1
One of my Amazon swords shot this stalk thingy up to the surface, and
along the length of this tendril are now found maybe 8 daughter
plants.  There's also a leafy/flowery thing opening above the surface.
My question is when and how I should clip these daughter plants from
Advice - hornwort and frill25 Nov 2004 04:26 GMT1
I have 15 gal tank that is about 2 months old. Stable, water is clean, fish
happy. Java fern is nice and green. Lillys seem to grow good. However,
hornwort and frill will grow for a bit and then turn brown and die back. Is
this normal for this plant? I've grown hornwort before, and ...

T-12 Reflector Design - FREE PLAN24 Nov 2004 13:31 GMT7
For those who might be interest in building their own reflectors, I am
offering this design based on a T-12  (1.5")  fluorescent bulb.
Note that the overall width is 5.25" - something to keep in mind when
stuffing 6 tubes into a hood.  ;-)  This width is optimum for this
Please help me kill my BGA!24 Nov 2004 01:57 GMT5

New CO2 tank pressure21 Nov 2004 21:42 GMT4
I just got my first CO2 tank today.  A friend of mine who works at Pepsi
gave me a 25 pound tank that he said was full.  When I plugged in my
regulator that has been sitting here for days it barely went up 1/4 of the
gauge to stop around 750 PSI. My question is, Should I go have ...

I am having a real tough time with some GBA. I have four oto's and they

getting much less CO2 now...why?20 Nov 2004 07:24 GMT4
I usually get about 25-30ppm of CO2. After a while I didn't bother to check
since the plants were flourishing and everything was great. However, in the
last month I've been noticing algae that I've never had before, namely the
green spot algae on some of the leaves and some ...
Favorite iron test kit ?20 Nov 2004 04:42 GMT3
An article at the krib cautions to get a test kit that properly reads chelated
iron, if that is what you are dosing. Any recommendations on kits that make a
measurement in the useful 0.1ppm range in response to chelated iron ?
Java Fern Question19 Nov 2004 16:34 GMT4
I noticed that the tips of my java fern is putting out small roots and a
small upward growing shoot. The leaves themselves are very stiff and point
up, so the tip isn't likely to contact the gravel soon. Can I cut the leaf
off and put it so the tip is contacting the gravel? I'm ...
