Ozone in freshwater aquaria?31 May 2005 18:23 GMT1
I have never seen the topic of using ozone in the freshwater planted
aquarium. Using common plant techniques (2-4 wpg light, co2 injection,
proper substrates, heating cables, etc.), is it ever used? Does it "scrub"
nutrients plants may need? Does it help with algae
Driftwood31 May 2005 10:40 GMT12
Does anyone know if I can soak drift wood from the ocean for a couple of
weeks to get the salt out and then use it in my fresh water aquarium.  Or is
there any other way.
New Plants31 May 2005 02:49 GMT2
I had a planted tank years ago, with good DIY lighting, and CO2. Now I am
starting the hobby again, after being gone for about 5 years, and have
forgotten most of the things I knew (this is not like riding a bike,
although I may catch on quickly). I have a black ghost fish, and ...
How much substrate?30 May 2005 14:59 GMT1
I set up a 55 gal. US a couple of months ago using EccoComplete, and
followed their recommendations for the amount to use -- one package per 10
gallons of water.  This resulted in a tank with 4.5 inches substrate depth
at the back and 3.5 inches at the front.
Keeping water bamboos submersed28 May 2005 17:30 GMT3
Has anybody grown water bamboos completely submersed? Do they require CO2
and fertilisers? Thanks.
Microscopic plants28 May 2005 09:58 GMT1
Anyone know why I have microscopic stem plants growing on the surface of
one of my planted tanks? I've noticed them before but ignored them.
They are bright green, 3mm tall and tend to clump in groups of three or
four. I thought it was some type of pollen or spores until I ...
CO2 and Oxygen28 May 2005 06:30 GMT3
Is there any value with pumping CO2 into an aquarium during the day and
oxygen at night?
Thanks - Dave

Green water help.27 May 2005 16:51 GMT9
According to what I have read, GW is little more than a "phase" the
aquarium goes through if things get slighly off balance. To my
understanding the green cloud almost cures itself. That didn't happen
and I have been waiting for about 60 days.
plants finally growing!27 May 2005 10:32 GMT1
just realized a possibility why my plants seem to die. I have had my light
for over 2.5 years and this week it began to make loud noises. I gathered
that it might be time to replace the globe, and I did. WOW, what a
difference. Compared to what the light was like before this is like ...
will plants floating at the top of my tank die?27 May 2005 09:23 GMT4
the roots are exposed but they are closer to the light. right now i
have a normal 55 gal fluorescent light and two extra 10 gal
fluorescent lights, so the tanks covered.

Cultivating plants27 May 2005 02:37 GMT1
I have several different plants growing in a 10 gallon tank. Most were
bought from bulbs at Wal-Mart, so I am not sure what they are - MOST of them
seem to be aponogeton plants, which seem to be about the only frickin' bulbs
from Wal-Mart that will grow. One other that did sprout ...
Nitrate test kits and reading 25 May 2005 13:05 GMT4
Any one knows what chemicals the Nitrate test kit use? I have the Freshwater
Master Test kit, it uses 2 different bottles chemicals. #2 bottle need 1
minute to shake before use, than another minute to shake the mix another 5
minutes to develop the color. So it takes all most 10 ...

CF lights fade in?24 May 2005 06:06 GMT5
I'm usually still in bed when my tank lights come one, but this morning
I wasn't.  And when they did, I noticed that they seemed very dim.
Slowly, they got brighter.  I'm a bit concerned that the ballast is
going south or something.
