can increase in water temperature affect algae growth?30 Jun 2005 08:41 GMT4
I have been wondering why my tank, after a good year of no algae has started
growing some again. I believe this has occurred right after I added a school
of clown loaches and increased my aquarium temperature from 77 to about 82.
Does warmer temperatures add more favourable ...
can worms live in the substrate - is it a good thing29 Jun 2005 03:57 GMT4
I just got back from the LFS with a single serving of live black worms.
When I put them in the tank I was amazed to see a few "get away" by wiggling
into the substrate.  Not sure why I was so amazed to see a worm burrow into
sand but I was.

I started a new planted tank about a month ago lights are on for 10hrs and

by my LFS that my lights are on to long for a tank under 6 months old she
told me that the lights should be on for 4hrs, and ...

Tropica site.

Seaclear tank lighting question22 Jun 2005 05:39 GMT2
I have 46g seaclear tank. Currently, I am using a 65w CF and a 20w
fluorescent. For the fresh water plant tank, I don't think it is enough.
Now, I try to replace a 20w fluorescent by another 65w CF. However, I am not
sure if the heat of 2 65w CF can cause problem for the hood ...

planting in pots21 Jun 2005 14:27 GMT2
Got a very large tank with has 3" of sand and no UGF.  Thinking of putting
plants in pots (say 6"-8" pots with holes on sides) and bury them in sand.
This way I don't have to redo all the substrate.
Will it work?  What would the best best substrate for these pots?  I am
Algae Control21 Jun 2005 09:10 GMT9
Just need a heads up on Algae Control. Since that was one of the main
culprits of me ditching a saltwater reef system.
Can you send me to some good articles on preventing it before it happens or
recommend some good books for me to read?
CF Rated Wattage20 Jun 2005 02:51 GMT4
Would there be any harm in using a 36 watt compact fluorescent T5 tube
with a 55 watt electronic ballast? I presume the tube just pulls as much
current as needed. The reason for the higher wattage ballast is to allow
for the potential to "upgrade".
