newplants/ols plants29 Sep 2006 16:16 GMT4
I've upped my 400l tank's puny 2x36w lighting to 4x36 (with new reflectors.
Couldn't get the tarnish off the old ones, oh well !).
New plants have arrived today.
So, do I remove the old ones with "some" algae on them, or keep them and
Sword plant gone terrestrial27 Sep 2006 13:44 GMT7
I don't always get a chance to check on my tanks during the week if work is
crazy. Yes, the fish get fed and their basic needs (water :-) ) looked
after.
So I go down to the basement today to do my weekly water change(s) and see

I think one of my tetra has dropsey..its eyes are buldge and its swiming
nose up... I've isolated the sick one
but should I treat the tank with some antibiotics? I did a 30% water change.

weird breeding onset....fish and plant...26 Sep 2006 07:29 GMT1
HI folks, got  a new one, and I figured Idd see what the collective wisdom
is....
I've been keeping tanks for over 30 years, and have more or less etteld on a
single large community tank - 125, well panted, stocked with genereic
Restarting Excel dosing24 Sep 2006 11:13 GMT3
I ran out of Excel last week and have some arriving today.
However, as it has been over a week since the tanks were dosed and have had
25% water changes and substrate hoovered, do I treat them as "new"  and use
the initial recommended doing, or dose as usual ?
When to dose?24 Sep 2006 08:05 GMT2
I know that CO2 is used during lighted hours, and not used during the
dark.  Thus, if one is trying to conserve CO2, or avoid stressing the
fish, CO2 injection is often stopped at night.
Is there some sort of similar rule to follow regarding nitrates?  Do
Need an ID on these plants.24 Sep 2006 03:05 GMT12
Went on a collection trip today, at Crum Creek in Delaware County,
Pennsylvania.  Picked up two interesting plants, one a pretty stem
plant, with somewhat red stems and green, almost scalloped thin
leaves.  The other a moss.
How to set-up Red Sea Bubble Counter :(23 Sep 2006 22:54 GMT2
Hi All. Probably a silly question but I am about to set-up a new co2
system and purchased the Red Sea bubble counter. Anyone install one
(the Red Sea version)?
Question(s): Should there not be water within the bubble counter? If
Hornswort question23 Sep 2006 21:03 GMT6
I've tried unsucessfully to grow Hornswort for a few years, and finally gave
up. Several months ago I moved, and in my tank I had a few 1 inch scraps of
old hornswort, barely alive. Today, it is an infestation that I have to thin
periodically. Is Hornswort sensitive to different ...
CO2 Diffusion22 Sep 2006 23:36 GMT3
Is it ok to just put the CO2 tube into the inlet of my canster filter?  I
bought some crazy thing called the 'Aqua Medic Membrane Reactor".  It worked
for a while (just discharging large CO@ bubbles into the water), now the
damn hose keeps popping off the tube,  I'd rather go the ...
After a year and a half...17 Sep 2006 13:16 GMT1
My tank has become bushier.

I started as many of us did, a few clumps of stem plants from the local
fish store in a tank with sub par dim lighting. Since then I've added a
T-5 vs. Standard Fluorescent... also T-614 Sep 2006 22:43 GMT3
I read the last thread concerning CF vs. fluorescent, and I did learn a
bit. I was wondering if anybody out there has any experience &
knowledge concerning T-5 units?  I've seen these suckers in action and
they seem to be much brighter than standard fluorescent, with much

I'm just back into this hobby after an 8 year absence.  This is my
first time with a planted tank, so I've got a bunch of questions.
Hardware:

What's the best way of trimming/propagating this plant?  Cutting the
tops off and replanting?  (Easiest!)  Or up rooting, trimming the bottom
ends and replanting?  Thanks for the help.
By the way I'm the fellow that a few months ago had a very serious
