Rats and gnawing on bones?31 Dec 2004 23:43 GMT30
I had a left-over rib bone from dinner which had a bit of meat left on
the bone, so I gave it to my ratties, thinking that they would gnaw off
the remaining meat.  Instead, they seemed much more interested in
gnawing on the bone, itself.  I wasn't sure if gnawing on the bone
Buster and his toe AGAIN!31 Dec 2004 21:38 GMT5
I've posted here before about my little boy Buster (named for Buster Keaton)
and his toe that was deformed and then developed what looked like a
tumor -and misdiagnosed twice.

I thought of a good design for rattie pouches but I'm just no good with
sewing machines.
Instead, I bought the material (wooly on one side and fleecy on the other)
and my design to a seamstress and she put together the perfect rattie pouch.

crooked rat?29 Dec 2004 19:51 GMT6
I noticed my rat Petra has been grinding her teeth this past week, which I
dismissed, but on Xmas eve I noticed she seemed a little "off". She came
running for her dinner with the others, but seems to tilt to the left and is
a bit shaky on her legs. She's still got quite an ...
Update on Jacques (Christmas emergency)29 Dec 2004 19:49 GMT10
This post is a follow up to my "Help! Christmas Emergency!" post on
Christmas.
Luckily, my former vet back in Massachusetts was open on Sunday and was able
to see Jacques.  So off he went with us to Mass., with Pierre for company.

A few "new" pics (well, actually older ones that I've just been
wanting to upload on Webshots) -- after "Cocoa Suave" on page 2,
including one of some guinea pig, apparently (see "Oh yeah, what's
so funny?!").  <g>
X-Ray photos and new pics29 Dec 2004 18:45 GMT8
Since Jacques had his surgery away from home, the vet gave me the x-rays to
take to my regular vet.  I took some photos of them and put them up on
webshots.  It's fascinating to see inside a rattie!
I also put up some new pics of Jacques so you all know who I'm talking

Christmas Tree Rat29 Dec 2004 03:29 GMT10
I brought our little buddy Chip up to the living room for some exercise
today.  (Actually, he's not so little - he's a big black rat who's a good
nine inches from nose to base of his tail).  And, as usual, I let him run
around the couch as I watched the news.  He snoops around ...

Sniffing Citrus Prevents Asthma in Rats28 Dec 2004 14:01 GMT7
Studies at by Professor Ehud Keinan & his team at Technion-Israel
Institute of Technology in Israel believe "natural ozone scavengers" such
as limonene in citrus fruits may prevent asthma. Their animal models for
the studies were rats.  As reported in the December 2004 Journal of
