Rabies vaccination for humans29 Feb 2004 20:21 GMT5
My son began volunteer work at a local animal hospital. In order to be "hands
on" with the animals, he had to take a series of three rabies injections. I
understand that if he were to be bitten by a suspected animal, he would need a
booster shot.
Mystery Ailment in a Great Dane29 Feb 2004 20:19 GMT7
This has been going on for quite some time, and it looks like the vets
are shooting in the dark now.  Started around the end of November, with
the dog not eating well, and having "knots" in his rear legs.  He was
also making occasional gagging/coughing noises.  Vet found swollen ...

Sick Hawk28 Feb 2004 21:29 GMT5
Does anyone know what could cause a adolescent hawk's eyes start to get
gummy and swollen?  She is becoming lethargic, and is refusing to eat.  We
think it's a Vitamin A deficiency (she refuses to eat the carrots given),
but not sure how to treat it.  Would appreciate any info we ...

Posting this for a friend.  The vet is scratching his head at this
time.  Any thoughts as to what this might be or what to look for? [my

bleeding/blood in urine28 Feb 2004 01:37 GMT3
I have a mix breed terrior, female, 8 years old that has started to
bleed.  It seems to happen when she gets excited, numerous large drops
of blood, some clotted, are all over floor. She also is very sensitive
in her hind area now. The vet diagnosed her problem as a urinary
sub Q rabie ?28 Feb 2004 01:03 GMT5
I have a cat who developed a giant cell tumor after her last muscular rabies
shot.  Since that time all her vaccines have been given nasally and now
she's due for the rabies.  My vet says that the rabies vaccine is now given
sub Q and it should not pose a threat.
anaphylactic shock from Vaccines-alternatives?27 Feb 2004 15:52 GMT10
Our Pug got his shoots last year-Rabies, Distemper,  and Lymes.
Several hours later he went into anaphylactic shock.
He is due for his shots again,  but we don't this to happen again.
What can we do?
Cat Sneezing Blood27 Feb 2004 03:48 GMT2
Some time ago I took my 6-year old cat to see the vet because he
was sneezing blood. I was told he probably had an ulcer in his nose.
He was given antibiotics and a cortisone shot, which seemed to
clear up the problem.
Ear Wax26 Feb 2004 19:25 GMT2
Do some dogs just naturally produce a huge amount of ear wax,
or would this be a symptom of some bigger problem?
I have a chihuahua that is about 11 years old and it seems like
she just has a tremendous amount of ear wax, especially if I
Articles on hyrdocephalus26 Feb 2004 04:04 GMT1
Was wondering if anyone had links to good articles on hydrocephalus,
treatment thereof, etc.
I had a pom pup that I rescued from the local pound with it that we
euthanized at about 12 weeks of age (9/12/01) because of continuous
Intermittent feline heart murmur?26 Feb 2004 00:04 GMT1
Here's the situation:
At the age of 5, my cat (female spayed DSH) was diagnosed with an
extremely quiet murmur by 3 different vets at 2 different clincs
(either Grade 1 or 6, whichever is the low end of the scale).  I had
How do I keep dog off furniture?25 Feb 2004 22:50 GMT39
I have 2 house dogs, a 11 yr.old terrier cross(good girl Sandy) we call her
and then we have the 8yr. old yellow lab cross.(the bad one, Mia).
Mia is a good and loyal, but whenever we leave the house she is up on the

amputation; second opinon; vet recommendations? Minnesota.25 Feb 2004 01:31 GMT6
Sorry to not follow usual protocol and lurk for awhile before just up
and posting something; time is an issue here.
Back in December my dog, a 70ish pound lab, was caught in a trap for
much too long in below-zero weather. By the time I found him, his front
will my cats be at risk?24 Feb 2004 22:15 GMT1
I have a cat lady friend who persists in "rescuing" feral cats,
not nice, healthy kittens but sick older ones with coughs and
pussy eyes. She locks them in a room in her house and drags them back
and forth to the vet in her car.  My question is, if a ride with her
