I'm fostering 2 kittens with no mother, and the kittens are just around

My old boy (12 year old lab), perioducally gets very fowl smelling breath.
I've been trying for a while to figure out what the smell is. Its familiar,

my rat has gotten a bump underneath his right front leg
it doesnt seem to be bothering him i looks like he got poked with something
and it has swollen up and maybe infected but i am not sure anyone have any
